Larger ImageKey-wound wall clocks are true heirloom timepieces and our selection of Howard Miller models are some of the best available today. Key-wound wall clocks are wound with a key and these particular models that are featured here are wound weekly. With the exception of two particular models noted below, the key winds encased springs behind the dials. These particular mechanical wall clocks are known as spring-driven clocks. These springs put enough tension on all the gears inside the movement to turn them and to keep powering them for a week. The pendulum helps to regulate the speed so that accurate timekeeping is always possible.
In addition to spring-driven clocks, Howard Miller also offers two weight-driven wall clocks. The first model is the Howard Miller Focal Point 622-779. This model is powered by three weights instead of springs. The Focal Point is also known as a “tube movement,” as it includes nine tubes to produce a chime instead of metal rods.
The second weight-driven wall clock featured in our key-wound wall clock section is the Howard Miller Stevenson II 620-263. The timekeeping function of this wall clock is powered by two weights, while the hour strikes on the left side and the quarter chimes on the right side are powered by encased springs. For more of these styles see our special section on weight-driven wall clocks.
